How do I know if my kidneys are doing fine?

There are several indicators and signs that can help indicate if your kidneys are functioning properly:

  1. Urination Patterns: Changes in urination frequency, color, or volume can be indicators. Normal urine output is around 1-2 liters per day, and it should be a pale yellow color.
  2. Pain or Discomfort: Kidney problems can cause pain in the lower back or sides.
  3. Blood Pressure: Kidney health is closely tied to blood pressure. Consistently high blood pressure can be a sign of kidney issues.
  4. Swelling: If your kidneys aren't working properly, fluid can build up, causing swelling in the ankles, feet, face, or hands.
  5. Blood Tests: Kidney function can be assessed through blood tests that measure creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels.
  6. Urine Tests: Urinalysis can detect abnormalities such as blood, protein, or glucose in the urine, which might indicate kidney issues.
  7. Overall Health: Kidney health is connected to overall health, so conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure can affect kidney function.
